Meet Jennifer Barnett

Our 2010 Weight Loss Diary writer, Jennifer, is a 38-year-old editor and mom living in Virginia. Follow her progress as she works toward her goal of losing 26 pounds—and developing healthy habits that she’ll carry with her for life.

“I’ve struggled with weight for a long time—constantly fluctuating between 140 and 200 pounds. I can get slim just fine, but when it comes to staying that way, I have a problem. The moment I’m happy with what the scale says, I start slacking off when it comes to exercising and eating well—and quickly gain back everything I’ve lost. I’m married with a 3-year-old son and I work full-time, but I’m done using my busy life as an excuse for why I weigh 166 pounds. I’m ready to get off this weight loss roller-coaster and learn how to get healthy for the long haul.”

Who's helping Jennifer? Life coach Janice Taylor, author of Our Lady of Weight Loss,
nutritionist Katherine Tallmadge, R.D., author of Diet Simple: 192 Mental Tricks, Substitutions, Habits & Inspirations, and a personal trainer from Gold's Gym.

Good-for-you table for two

I'm lucky to live close to a lot of my family members. One of the many benefits is that, about once a week, my son spends the evening with his Grammy and Grampy, leaving James and I the freedom to go out alone. In the past, this has meant hitting up our ...(more)

Bouncing back

My son, James Wilson, turned four the other day and we threw a party for him at Pump It Up, an indoor venue full of giant inflatables (think: moonbounces). We've been there before, but I've always just watched while my husband frolicked with the kids—I ...(more)

A Slimmer Snow Bunny

We're planning a weekend ski trip, so I had to delve into my storage closet to find my gear. As I was digging around for my cold-weather clothes, I remembered last winter's vacation. My snow pants were so tight, I couldn't get them all the way up over ...(more)
